Pre-Teen Camp Review

"It just so happened that we were kicking off camp at a cemetery!"

The Journey

It seemed like it all happened so fast. Pre Teen camp was here and then gone in a snap, but it was the things that we did and learned at camp that will last forever. We met at church at noon, Wednesday July 11th to get ready to leave. We put our luggage in cars, prayed, said our goodbyes, and piled into cars. We were on our way to Lizard Lodge, or so we thought. It just so happened that we were kicking off camp at a cemetery!

We arrived at the cemetery and Mrs. Janie gave us our first lesson. Our lesson was that when you die and are buried, your JOURNEY on Earth ends, but your JOURNEY in Heaven begins. We were told that you should make the most of Earth because Heaven is the REAL DEAL! When all was done there we packed up once again and headed out, this time, to Lizard Lodge.

When we arrived, we unpacked and met in the guy’s cabin to have our first camp meeting. Mrs. Janie took us through all the rules and handed us our camp study folder. Each day we had a couple of pages to do in our folder as our "Quiet Time ". We learned about kitchen duty, and all the other jobs that we had to do. We couldn’t wait for a great year at camp.

We made our T-shirts after that and we wore them the Sunday we were back. The shirts had our verse on the back:

"But God’s Truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription:"The Lord knows those who are his," and "all who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil." 2 Timothy 2:19

We also had another verse:

"If you love me, obey me." John 14:15

Those two verses helped us to understand what our actions should be. We should not let evil overtake us and to stand up for what we know God wants us to do. Throughout the week we took a spiritual gifts test, talked about what our own qualities are, and read about the things in life that are up the road. By the time we left, we all understood what God was trying to say. I think that God really got to some of our hearts and those who He spoke to left camp better than they came.

One night we learned about manners and got to have a sit down practice. It taught us how ladies and gentlemen are supposed to act. Those things that Mrs. Janie told us are great things that will get us respected through life. We also learned that God wants us to act like that to show that we care about those around us. I have heard, since I got home, that there were some of us who took those manners home with us and felt good about having them.

God’s word was amazing this year at camp. I can’t wait until next year!
